Summify: The First and Best in Social Media Data Curation

When you are the first and best in anything, you will be grabbed by the first and best in the industry, an arrangement that will benefit both parties. This was the case of Summify, the first and best in the curation of social media data for the digital age.

Previously known as ReadFu, Summify is actually a plug-in created by Mircea Paşoi and Cristian Strat, two Romanian-born Google and Microsoft interns who then developed their idea at Bootup, in 2009. In March 2010, private beta for Summify started.

As a social news aggregator, Summify was used to email its users with periodic summaries of selected news articles shared from several social networks; the news articles were summarized according to their importance and relevance based on social reactions. The plug-in supported Facebook, Twitter and Google Reader accounts, thus, it was one of the most important social networking tools for Netizens from around the world.

Its initial success allowed Pasoi and Strat to negotiate a deal for the free app to be released on the Apple App Store on July 2011. The app allowed its users to access new summaries from their iOS devices.

On 19 January 2012, Twitter acquired Summify. The service was consequently discontinued on 22 June 2012.
