Rise and Relax to Nature's Rhythm With Sunn

Human beings are extremely sensitive to light. Studies show that light has a huge impact on our health – proper lighting promotes a healthy sleep-wake cycle, enabling us to sleep better at night and feel more energized during the day. Light entering our eyes regulates the body's circadian “clock” system, as well as many of our waking and resting behaviors. The sun, our planet's greatest natural source of light, informs our internal clocks of the time of day, guiding our daily rhythms and activities.

But in today's world, many people are spending more time indoors. The Sunn Light is a high-quality, smart LED light fixture that syncs with the sun, changing color and brightness according to the time of day to promote healthy living and create vibrant spaces. Sunn lets you bring the sun into your home. In the morning, it gradually brightens like the rising sun to gently wake you up. In the afternoon, it produces cool white colors to encourage focus and productivity. As the day winds down, Sunn emits a warm glow to help you relax and prepare for sleep.

Always Know Where Your Pet Is With Pip

No one ever wants to lose their pet, but sadly, nearly 10 million companion animals go missing every year. In most cases, the pet never showed any prior signs of running off, but then something unexpected happened.

Shortly after Dave Waymouth adopted his dog, Pip, the terrier mix escaped through the fence to run after a squirrel. Panicked, Waymouth and his family searched everywhere and alerted the neighbors and animal control. In the end, Pip was found eating garbage from a dumpster at a nearby hotel. Several months later, Waymouth's in-laws' cat, Juniper, disappeared. After almost a week, she was discovered trapped under the porch with a dislocated knee. Unfortunately, Juniper's hind leg needed to be amputated. If she had been found sooner, the vet would have been able to save her leg.

The unpleasant reality is that not all missing pets like Pip and Juniper are found – many stories have worse endings. One of Waymouth's biggest fears is that Pip will escape again and run into traffic, so he built a pet monitoring device to give himself and other pet owners peace of mind.

Named after Waymouth's dog, Pip is a small GPS and activity tracker for dogs and cats that attaches to a pet's collar. Pip will notify you of your pet's exact location if he ever leaves a safe area. The app will then use the GPS in your phone and the GPS in Pip to guide you to him. Because Pip uses a cellular data connection to transmit the GPS location, you'll be able to locate your pet anywhere in the United States.

Pip is not the first GPS tracker with a cellular connection for pets. However, existing products are all bulky, have poor battery life, and come with expensive monthly fees. By contrast, Pip is comfortable even for small pets and will last up to three months on a single charge. Additionally, it keeps track of your pet's daily movements, allowing you to see how active she is each day and spot any changing trends in her behavior.

Plan V: The Phone Charging Device That Doesn't Need to Be Charged

Eighteen months ago, friends Evan Stuart and Luke Trevitt found themselves in a situation that could have gone terribly wrong. They were stranded in Bogata, Colombia with dead mobile phones and battery packs and they couldn't find their hostel. After hours of navigating dark and dangerous streets and a few close calls, they finally found the place. That night, Stuart and Trevitt decided to create a portable, fail-safe charging device that one can rely on anywhere in the world.

The result is Plan V, which is like a car jumper cable for your phone. Plan V is designed to sit on your keyring and never needs to be charged. No bigger than a normal house key, it's so small and lightweight, you'll forget that it's there until you need it. When you do need it, simply connect a 9 volt battery to the device and plug it into your phone. These batteries are widely available and can be found in convenience stores, gas stations, and supermarkets.

Turn Your Child's Best Moments Into a Hardcover Book With BabyBook

Do you have thousands of photos of your baby on your iPhone but can't get around to organizing them? Are you always forgetting to write down the date and event whenever your little one does something exciting? Named one of “10 Apps to Help You Through Baby's First Year” by Mashable, BabyBook by CanDoBaby! lets parents record their child's milestones, organize photos, and print books easily.

When husband and wife team Scott and Elizabeth Valins introduced BabyBook as an idea last year, they received great feedback and encouragement from their users. Unfortunately, in the midst of the launch, the couple lost a pregnancy and Liz was hospitalized for more than three months due to complications. As they worked to get their family back on track, iOS technology evolved and they had to temporarily take BabyBook off the App Store.

In the hospital, the Valinses made a promise to treasure life's important moments. BabyBook helps parents do just that, and now the couple is ready to relaunch the app. Armed with their previous experience and valuable feedback from their users, Liz and Scott have completely redesigned BabyBook. They are currently raising funds on Kickstarter to get the app back into parents' hands as soon as possible.

BabyBook is a fun guide to track and record milestones as your child grows. It is also an easy way to pair these moments with photos. And as the name implies, it enables you to create a professionally printed, hardcover book from your iPhone.

BabyBook is the first app by CanDoBaby! and the company promises there will be more down the line. CanDoBaby! combines good design with smart technology to simplify and enhance the parenting experience. As parents themselves, the CanDoBaby! team understands that parents rely on their phones a lot and is committed to creating mobile apps that make life easier.

SLC Startup Creates a Battery Pack That Charges Up Crazy Fast

Who hasn't wished their devices would hurry up and finish charging already? In this modern, fast-paced world, who has time to wait? Luckily for us impatient, always on-the-go folks, Salt Lake City-based startup Power Practical has come up with a solution.

Meet the Pronto, the world's fastest-charging portable battery pack. Available in two models, the Pronto 5 and the Pronto 12, it can store 3-9 recharges in just an hour. With the Pronto 12, you get enough juice to fully charge an iPhone 5 in only 5 minutes.

Most universal battery packs allow you to charge on-the-go but take several hours to charge. Being stuck to the wall defeats the purpose of portable power. Power Practical is on a mission to fix this problem by developing a battery pack that charges insanely fast – the Pronto charges up to 12 times faster than other batteries on the market.

To achieve this super fast charging design, the Power Practical team had to find battery cells that could safely receive large amounts of power. They chose a very high-quality lithium polymer cell that is more powerful than cells found in other battery packs, then created custom circuit boards that charge up the cells quickly.

Both Pronto models have a virtually indestructible hard-anodized aluminum enclosure and a protective cap with an internal silicone seal to protect the Pronto's USB ports and internal parts from the elements. Two custom LED dials display the battery capacity and how fast the battery pack is charging. A durable nylon strap holds the protective cap in place and doubles as a carrying band. The Pronto 12 is equipped with additional features including 12V output to charge larger devices such as laptops and DSLR cameras and dual USB ports for simultaneous charging of two devices.

Power Practical is a group of tech and outdoor lovers who believe that charging your gadgets should be easy and convenient.

With SafeDrive, you earn points for not using your phone while driving. You can then use your points to buy discounted products and services from SafeDrive partners. Traffic safety is improved, consumers save money, and businesses get customers. Everybody wins.

You can invite your friends to join SafeDrive and engage in a little friendly competition to see who is the most responsible driver. The app, which is currently available on Android and Windows devices, also keeps a log of all your trips and points.

SafeDrive is a winner of the 2014 AT&T Connected Intersections traffic safety tech challenge and was named the number one mobile app at the 2014 Webstock Awards.

The iBox Nano Home 3D Printer Is Small, Quiet, and Affordable

iBox Printers has created the world's smallest, most affordable 3D resin printer, and the Melbourne, Florida-based company is currently running a Kickstarter campaign to bring its pint-sized powerhouse to market. Created with the home user in mind, the iBox Nano is everything most 3D printers are not – portable, inexpensive, easy to use, and quiet. According to iBox Printers founder Trent Carter, they didn't set out to improve 3D printing but to remove the barriers and get 3D printers into the hands of everyone. He and his team have gone to great lengths to design a completely user-friendly 3D printing experience.

Built to produce high-resolution prints with the touch of a button, the iBox Nano comes without wires or software, so users can spend less time setting up and more time printing. Most 3D printers support just a couple of operating systems and need to be tethered to a computer. By contrast, the iBox Nano lets you print from any browser, whether it's on your smartphone, tablet, or desktop. There is no software to install. If your device has a browser, you can print to the iBox Nano. Moreover, the printer works over Wi-Fi, so you can print from another room. An optional battery pack lets you 3D print on the go.

The iBox Nano uses UV LEDs instead of DLP projector bulbs, which are expensive and need to be replaced every 2,000-8,000 hours of use. LEDs, on the other hand, last over 50,000 hours. In addition, the iBox Nano uses very little power and generates almost no heat, so it doesn't require any noisy cooling fans. The iBox Nano weighs only 3 pounds and is constructed from precision laser-cut extruded acrylic or PMMA, which is lighter and 17 times stronger than glass.

Early supporters of the iBox Nano can get their own 3D printer starting at $269.

SF-Based Gbatteries Gives Your Li-Ion Batteries a Longer Life

Gbatteries is a San Francisco-based tech company that has created a battery management system (BMS) to increase battery capacity and cycle count. Gbatteries' BatteryOS controls rechargeable lithium-ion batteries, enabling them to hold a higher capacity and not degrade over time.

Designed to dynamically manage the energy inside of a li-ion battery pack during charging, idling, and discharging, BatteryOS uses a patent-pending process to maintain lithium-ion diffusion at optimal levels and eliminate concentration polarization. Meanwhile, its architecture and controlling algorithm allows for the full utilization of active materials in battery cells. With BatteryOS, any OEM li-ion battery gains the ability to store 10-40 percent more capacity and a cycle count that is 4 times higher, with no degradation in capacity as time goes by.

BatteryOS is compatible with any li-ion cell type or form factor. The BMS has been tested with cell phone batteries, 18650 cells, pouch cells, and everything in between.
